My DMUM Story!
Hi! My name is Audrey Baecker, and I am a rising junior in LS&A, studying Sociology and planning on going into social work. I joined DMUM my Freshman year with my best friend and roommate, Ally. I had never experienced anything like Dance Marathon before. The energy that the people in leadership positions displayed was like something out of a movie; they were so full of life, passion, and joy for the work they were doing through this organization. Ally and I were both immediately included and encouraged to get more and more involved. And, once we met some of the families at Pumpkin Carving and Tree Climbing therapy in the beginning of Fall semester, we absolutely knew we had to be a more integral part of this organization. It wasn’t a question of whether we would interview to be on the leadership body, Steering; it was a question of how high up in leadership the directors would let us go. That leads me to this past school year, where Ally and I were co-chairs for Campus Relations. Being a part of that CPT family is something I hold so dear to my heart, and I can picture 90 year old me telling my grandkids about our Sunday night meetings, our amazing retreat, and the endless fun we had together. It was unforgettable, and I got to do it right alongside my best friend! Fast forward to the present time, and I am a Public Relations coordinator. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am for this upcoming school year and all the fantastic things Alexa (PR Chair) has been cooking up over the last couple of months. The leadership body this year is phenomenal (just like every year, I mean, come on, we’re awesome) and we are going to do such amazing things. I found my community through DMUM. These are my people. This organization has made my college experience remarkably better. I hope you all are as pumped as I am about this coming school year. FTK forever!
Love always,
Audrey:)
